Down on the Allotment

Matron grows vegetables and fruit in a Hampshire garden. I've been growing veggies since I was knee high to a grasshopper. Some traditional varieties and old favourites as well as new ideas. I share my garden with my allotment assistant Daisy the Labrador. On Twitter as @MatronsVeggies

Matron's Swag

It rained and rained and rained yesterday! Hooray! We haven't had rain like that for months. Everything has just perked up and looks a lot happier. Here is one of my leeks which is sending up a flower spike. Any day now and it will be a mass of flowers, covered in bees!

Whilst at the Chelsea flower show, I made a few purchases! I bought myself a new trug. Just the thing for bringing back fruit and veggies from the allotment.

My eyes were drawn to a stall selling hand made, carbon steel gardening tools. This is a right-handed hand hoe. Hand made by De Witt in Holland. Just the ticket for weeding between delicate plants!

The picture of the leek matches ( what I thought was an onion from last year) and I pulled it up today! Hoping I would let it dry in the window sill for seeds! < did I do right ? or did I do a dumb thing :o(

Now that is a picture I would like to see, bees doing what they do best on your leeky flower head, cool

I have a hand hoe which I find really useful too.

Why does it seem to be just us who when we get rain seem to only have drizzly stuff?

Can't wait to see the leek bloom and the bees. The trug is a great buy...a handy tote for the veggies! I like the hand hoe...for the times one wants to be at ground level while hoeing! Beautiful tool!

That leek flower is going to be fab! Love the trug - might have to get myself one for when I've got goodies to bring home :-) Love 'n' hugs, Mel xx

I've not got an onion hoe so it's hand-weeding the onions for me - perhaps I should borrow one and see if I find it useful.

Enough rain to be going on with here in the Midlands - but it's too cool - my concurbits are sulking, and the french/runner beans not much better.

That basket (or trug as you call it) looks like it would make a great boat. So you veg will be safe if you happen to prop it in a river :) Both items look great quality, the best way to buy things.
